Land of the ghosts

In September 2019 I spent some time in Sinjar region, northern Iraq, to collect testimonies of MSF patients and report on trauma in this region.
The results are series of portraits with specific aesthetics, to try and make visible the suffering and trauma.

The first series consists of photographic montages merging a portrait of the person with another image related to the trauma. The second series is shot with slow shutter speed in order to show people’s sense of mental imprisonment and isolation. These images taken in dimly lit rooms symbolise the trauma and thoughts inside each person’s mind.
